Universal Academy is a public, non-discriminatory, independent school, authorized by Oakland University, which admits students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds to its college-preparatory program serving families in the Greater Detroit area. It is operated by staff who is highly qualified, certified and experienced group of professional men and women who earned their degrees at numerous colleges and universities throughout the United States and internationally.
The Public School Academy aims at providing its students with quality education that focuses on the Michigan core curriculum and international cultures, including the study of a language, culture and history different from one’s own. The Academy shall provide an education that will enable the various ethnic traditions, values, and experiences of students to enrich and nurture one another.
Universal Academy is in the process of implementing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) in grades 6-10. Universal Academy is pleased to announce our Candidate Status as of July 2008 and plans to implement the MYP Program in the 2009-2010 school year once authorized.
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
